Tony doesn't succumb to the lure of oblivion
the wanting to lose quickly
what's almost forgotten; instead he registers
the tug of what's around the corner
or the bend of the cell--
entire neighborhoods of brain cells
so still. Anyone home?
Some oblivions are brightly lit
and dappled with spasmodic action.
Some days Tony doesn't know where
to scratch for the action.
His dim-witted friends are winning prizes
for smarts. Is he lacking a memory
or is it conscious attention he snubs?
